What is a Hybrid Vehicle?

A hybrid vehicle is a type of car that combines a traditional petrol or diesel-powered engines with an electric motor and high-performance battery. The purpose of this combination is to provide improved fuel efficiency with the benefits of reduced emissions, while still offering the range and performance of a traditional fuel powered car.

Hybrid vehicles typically use the electric motor to assist the petrol or diesel engine during acceleration, which helps to reduce overall fuel consumption. They also use regenerative braking to recharge the battery when the car is slowing down or stopping, which helps to maximise the electric motor’s efficiency.

There are two main types of hybrid vehicles:

Full hybrid

These vehicles can operate using the electric motor alone, the petrol or diesel engine alone, or a combination of both. The battery is typically larger and can provide a greater electric-only range.  These typically are more expensive but offer greater flexibility.

Mixed hybrid

These vehicles use the electric motor to assist the petrol or diesel engine, but the electric motor alone is not powerful enough to drive the car. The battery is smaller and cannot provide an electric-only range.  An affordable option and a great choice for those who drive regular but shorter distances such as to and from work or the school run.

Hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular due to their improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, as well as government incentives and regulations encouraging their adoption.

Overall, hybrid vehicles offer a range of benefits, including improved fuel economy, reduced emissions, better performance, and lower maintenance costs, making them an attractive option for many car buyers.
