With Halloween fast approaching, we’ve been looking back over classic horror films (and some of the family-friendly options too). They say a classic scary film always features a villain, spine-tingling horror, violence and that unforgettable jump scene. But there’s always an underrated star in a horror that makes for an unforgettable, iconic car or truck scene that oozes horror and torment. 

Take a look at what made it onto Treadfirst’s horror film list of dread-inducing car scenes:

Duel – Psycho-Killer Tanker:

Written by Richard Matheson and directed by Steven Spielberg, this all-american thriller follows David Mann en-route to what seems like a normal business trip, but that couldn’t be further from the truth as we watch suspicious and spine-tingling events unfold. What we want to know is, who is this psycho-killer driving a Peterbilt truck and will Mann survive out on the road?

Scooby-Doo – The Mystery Machine:

Inspired by the VW or Corvair Van, The Mystery Machine provides transportation to the main characters, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby Doo. This vehicle can adapt to any situation and is well-equipped with tools, ropes, ladders, a long bench, table, chairs, computer equipment – all you need to get you out of any sticky situation!

Batman – Batmobile – Lincoln Futura:

The most famous design, Batman’s new set of wheels – a modified 1955 Ford Lincoln Futura. This exceptional car was used in the original Batman TV series with Adam West. The first full-length film adaptation of Batman was released in 1966 and was so successful that it is still being remade today with ‘The Batman’ coming out in 2021.
