December 3, 2020New Electric Cars for 2021 – Top Ten Review

Last month, the government announced their intention to bring forward the date for phasing out diesel and petrol cars. Initially, the ban on sales of these cars was due to come into force in 2040, but in an effort to push for a carbon-neutral country, the date is now 2030.

That means electric cars will come into the spotlight more and more over the next 10 years. With this in mind, we’re here to take you through some of the new electric cars expected in 2021, giving you a headstart when it comes to government targets.

Audi e-tron GT – Expected Spring 2021

No strangers to making forward strides, Audi has lined up the e-tron GT for spring next year. A four-door, fully-electric performance car, it holds very similar technology to the Porsche Taycan. This is the car Audi will lead the line with, producing 12 more electric vehicles by 2025 (see the next entry for more!).

  • Audi e-tron GT
  • Expected: Spring 2021
  • Range: 250 miles
  • 80% charge time: Roughly 20 minutes

Audi Q4 e-tron – Expected Autumn 2021

Part of Audi’s attempt to introduce more electric vehicles by 2025, the Q4 e-tron will be out by this time next year. It’s a fully electric SUV which they hope will compete with the Tesla Model Y. This model will use the VW MEB framework, something Volkswagen has created as a modular system for the manufacturing of more electric vehicles.

  • Audi Q4 e-tron
  • Expected: Autumn 2021
  • Range: 280 miles
  • 80% charge time: Roughly 30 minutes

BMW i4 – Expected end of 2021

Looking like a car of the future, the i4 also boasts an impressive range from an electric motor, 373 miles to be exact. Not only that, but it’ll also have a rapid recharging time going from zero to almost 80% in roughly 30 minutes. This model, following up from the i3, is expected to start a shift for BMW towards more in the i-model range.

  • BMW i4
  • Expected: End of 2021
  • Range: 373 miles
  • 80% charge time: Roughly 30 minutes

Fiat 500 Electric – Expected March 2021

People are already excited to get their hands on this fully-electric version of the popular Fiat 500. Compared with most other electric vehicles, this will be a more affordable way into the market at almost £20k but will be limited to a range of 115 miles on a full charge of the battery.

  • Fiat 500 Electric
  • Expected: March 2021
  • Range: 115 miles
  • 80% charge time: Roughly 35 minutes

Ford Mustang Mach-E – Expected Summer 2021

Keeping up with the pace, this electric Ford Mustang will attempt to rival the Tesla Model Y. An impressive 370-mile range and charging to 80% in roughly 40 minutes means it stands a chance. The most extreme model of the Mach-E will come with performance tyres from Pirelli.

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E
  • Expected: Summer 2021
  • Range: 370 miles
  • 80% charge time: Roughly 40 minutes

Lexus UX 300E – Expected March 2021

This is the first Lexus to be a fully-electric vehicle and is thought to be a rival for Volvo and Tesla SUV models. Its maximum range is 186 miles and the platform is adapted from Toyota’s TNGA GA-C. The charging time to get an 80% charge is roughly 50 minutes.

Recharging, however, could take about an hour to get back to 80%. This model follows similarities with the Skoda Citigo-e iV but is essentially a replacement for the normal, petrol-powered Seat Mii which has ceased production.
